This is a very good example of the ever-popular and very usable MGB GT, well finished in Blaze with black interior. There is a very large and very detailed history file with the car, some of which we will describe here. The car was first registered on 16th April 1971 and by 1975, had covered around 25,000 miles at which point, it was purchased by its second (lady) owner, who kept the car until 1990, and having homes in South Africa and the UK, she used the car in both countries. By 1980, it had covered 47,000 miles, and by 1990, it reached 86,000. The car was then unused until 2006, when it was sold at auction as a car in need of full restoration. Over the ensuing six years, it was extensively restored bodily and mechanically before being sold to a collector who, with the help of an engine specialist, carried out a lot of tuning work to the engine, including rebore to 1950cc, balancing, re-porting and fitting double-cut valve seats etc – together with the fitting of electronic ignition. It is suggested in the file that this engine produced around 120 BHP, although we have no technical data to support this. Then, in 2020, a new speedometer was fitted and we believe that the overall mileage from new is now 110,000. Since 2020, recent works include a full respray, re-padding of seats, replacement of carpets and door cards and further improvements to the mechanics, including an overhaul of the brake system and the fitting of a servo unit. The car has also been Waxoyled during this time, and has a walnut dashboard, Motolita steering wheel, and chrome interior door pulls. The car has Rostyle wheels with excellent matching tyres all round, the latter fitted at the end of 2020. The underside is very clean and tidy, and the engine bay is well detailed; the condition of the boot area is good. This is a very well-driving car, with bags of power, light steering, good handling, nice gearbox and smooth overdrive – a very good example, not to be missed. Comes with V5C, MOT certificate to 15th April 2027, lots of paperwork as mentioned above, photographs and DVDs of the restoration.
